What is a plantar wart — and how do we treat it?

A plantar wart (also called a verruca) is a small, often painful skin growth on the sole of the foot caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). At Blueprint Podiatry in Tuggerah, our podiatry team assesses your wart, confirms the diagnosis, and builds a tailored treatment plan to help manage it and reduce your discomfort when walking.

What does treatment involve?

Every plan starts with a proper assessment. Our podiatrists examine the lesion to confirm it's a wart (not a corn or callus, which can look similar), check how many you have, and consider your general health and activity levels before recommending the most suitable approach.

Depending on your situation, your treatment may include:

• Debridement — carefully reducing the overlying hard skin to expose the wart and ease pressure-related pain.
• Topical applications — various preparations applied in-clinic and, where appropriate, guidance for ongoing care at home.
• Minor procedural options — for persistent or clustered warts, your podiatrist will discuss the most appropriate next steps and what to expect.

What to expect during and after

Warts are notoriously persistent, so treatment is often a process rather than a single visit. We'll explain your plan up front, including how many sessions may be involved and what you can do between appointments to support results and lower the risk of spreading the wart to others. After treatment, you can usually return to your normal day, and we'll give you clear, practical advice on footwear, hygiene and reducing recurrence.

Blueprint Podiatry offers HICAPS for on-the-spot private health claiming. We also accept Medicare EPC (Chronic Disease Management) referrals with a small gap, DVA Gold and White cards (no gap), and NDIS for self- and plan-managed participants. We are open Monday to Friday, from 7am, so it's easy to find a time that fits around work or school.
