Juvenile Diabetes

Juvenile diabetes, also known as Type 1 diabetes, is a chronic autoimmune condition in which the body's immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. As a result, the body cannot produce enough insulin to regulate blood sugar levels effectively. Children and adults with Type 1 diabetes need treatment with insulin to survive. Long-term complications of this form of diabetes can affect the circulation and neurological systems in particular to the feet.

Monitoring and understanding foot health and diabetes is a good habit to get children into to help prevent complications later on such as poor wound healing, ulceration and numbness.
